Na avicultura não é diferente, a receita gerada pela venda de ovos deve ser maior que a quantia gasta para manter as aves alimentadas e fazer a distribuição dos ovos até aos pontos de venda. Se essa conta não fechar, significa prejuízo para os avicultores.

As galinhas que não produzem, o suficiente, deixam de ser rentáveis e precisam ser descartadas em abatedouros licenciados. Com o aumento da produção no Espírito Santo, o número de abatedouros não cresceu proporcionalmente. Há uma fila de espera de 45 a 60 dias para abater as galinhas velhas. Este é um dos pontos de desequilíbrio na atual situação da avicultura capixaba pois, ao não descartar as aves com baixa perfomance de produção, o ciclo delas aumenta e cresce a oferta de ovos no mercado, gerando uma desvalorização do produto.

Outro ponto importante a ser destacado é o aumento significativo do valor das principais matérias-primas para produção de ração. Em um ano, dezembro de 2017 a dezembro de 2018, o milho e o farelo de soja registraram um aumento de 22%. Parte desta elevação do preço é atribuída às mudanças feitas na legislação para por fim à greve dos caminhoneiros, em maio de 2018. Com isso, o custo de produção está entre 60 a 65 reais por caixa, mas o valor recebido por caixa não passa de 60 reais.

A expectativa é ter um aumento no preço dos ovos nestes primeiros meses do ano mas, se isso não acontecer, a situação fica ainda mais delicada. Haja visto que diversos produtores investiram pesado nos últimos anos para aumentar a produção e novas pessoas entraram na atividade devido à rentabilidade. Para iniciar ou ampliar uma produção avícola não é barato. Por isso os produtores precisam de crédito dos bancos para investir e manter o capital de giro e, para obter o dinheiro, os avicultores colocam dão seus bens em garantia. Perder as economias para as instituições financeiras é uma preocupação real, principalmente para os pequenos produtores. A situação é muito preocupante.

Para entender a importância da avicultura, basta verificar os dados publicados pela Associação dos Avicultores do Estado do Espírito Santo (AVES), no relatório Perfil da Avicultura Capixaba 2017-2018. De acordo com o relatório da AVES, Santa Maria de Jetibá produz 93% dos ovos de galinha do ES, cerca de 340 milhões de dúzias por ano e 600 mil toneladas de adubo orgânico. Essa cadeia produtiva movimenta a economia capixaba, mais de 100 mil famílias são beneficiadas diretamente pela avicultura. Para se ter uma ideia são 300 mil cargas por ano em caráter exclusivo para o transporte de insumos, ovos, esterco, aves vivas e abatidas. A avicultura gera aproximadamente 25 mil empregos e movimenta quase 2 bilhões de reais por ano na economia capixaba.
